Rostock isTemporarilly out of action

Well the heat resistor in my hot end blew today and I dont have a spare. So she's out of action until the reinforcments arrive. They are so cheap I ordered 5 +  some additional thermal paste to make sure I can keep feeding it :-)

Just before it went, I made another mod to the Rosock. I put a twist in the belt so that the back of the belt runs over the bearings at the top rather than the teeth. I there was a noticible improvement in the smoothness of the movements.  Cant really test it until I get it all back together.
I will have a little break until they arrive.

  1. Oh No! --- Thanks for posting. I'll order extras for my hot end. :) Could you beef up the resistors you are using? Higher Wattage?

The twist - good idea. I'd seen that in others builds. I was thinking of doing that too.

    1. It is the one that came with the J-head. It is most likely my fault as I did not have any of the heat paste, so it is moste likely that it was making bad contact with the heat block and not dissapating the heat evenly. It cauld also explain why I was having an issue with the hot end cooling down too much while printing. ANyway I have tons of spares on the way with the goo and also some of the new heat cartridges that peoiple are raving about.

  2. Now that you've built and run - Would you photo document the machine parts? It is very interesting to see the various details and your assembled machine in photos at different angles.

You (we?) are making History. Remember: These Delta 3D printers never really existed before this year and Johann released his files. ---- Kinda Mondo Cool!

  3. Twisted Belt Alert - I'd just been reading about twisting and bending belts backwards voids belt warranties and is not as the belts are designed. See this RepRap thread. Even if some are doing it we need to be aware the belts may not last. --- http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?4,128202,128243#msg-128243

    1. Thanks for the alert on the twisred belts. The ones I am using are not expensive they only cost me $8.00 each. I have spares too. I will keep them twisted and see how long they last. They are very tight now due to my latest mod. I added threaded rods so it is soo mych easier to tension the belts without needing 4 hands.
